VIC RS1 suited for Tack Coat

Tack Coat

It is an application of low viscosity liquid bituminous binder to an existing bituminous surface prior to the superimposition of a bituminous mix. It ensures a bond between the new and old surfaces. Too much of tack coat may lead to fattening of the surface and slippage between two pavement courses as the binder act as a lubricant rather than a bonding medium.

Prime Coat

It is an application of a low viscosity bitumen emulsion to an untreated absorbent base in preparation for a bituminous course. Low viscosity of the primer ensures good penetration of the prime coat to the base (3 to 7mm). Purposes of priming are, to plug the capillary voids, coat and bond loose materials on the surface, harden or toughen the surface and to promote adhesion between the layer being primed and the superimposed bituminous layer

The recommended rate of application for various surfaces are

Low porous surface (WMM/WBM) = 6 to 9 kg/10m
Medium Porous (Cement stabilized soil base) = 9 to123 kg/10m
2 High Porous (Gravel base) = 2.5 to 3 kg/10m

Liquid seal coat

Liquid seal coat comprises of a layer of bituminous binder over an existing bituminous surface followed by a cover of stone chippings. Purpose of this coat is to seal the voids in the existing bituminous surface. It is an alternative to a premixed seal coat. Depending on the region, traffic, rainfall and other environmental conditions suitable grade of emulsion/cutback may be used.
